Phenylephrine relieves congestion of the nasal passages and is found in many cold and flu remedies. Note: In general, seniors or children, people with certain medical conditions (such as liver or kidney problems, heart disease, diabetes, seizures) or people who take other medications are more at risk of developing a wider range of side effects. Not recommended for routine use following septic shock.The injection may also cause sloughing of tissue if leakage occurs around the injection site. The injectable form of phenylephrine contains sodium metabisulfite, a sulfite that may cause allergic reactions in susceptible people.Always talk with a doctor before giving cough or cold medicines to children.
